Pataskala, Ohio (21 June 2021) – Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) heads to Watkins Glen International for back-to-back race weekends at the upstate New York circuit. The No. 60 Acura ARX-05 DPi of Dane Cameron and Olivier Pla will first race in the annual Sahlen’s Six Hours of Watkins Glen on Sunday (10:40am ET, TRACKPASS).
The team will look to reset after a challenging weekend on the streets of Belle Isle. The Sahlen’s Six Hour marks the third of four rounds of the 2021 IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup, and the first long-distance event since the Twelve Hours of Sebring in March. 2020 was the first IMSA season in 16 years that MSR had not competed in the Six Hour classic after the event was cancelled due to the pandemic, but the team has thrived in recent years at the 3.4-mile track.
In the team’s debut outing with the Acura NSX GT3 program in 2017, drivers Katherine Legge and Andy Lally drove flag to flag for victory for MSR after starting from the pole. Just two years later, the MSR Acura NSX driven by Trent Hindman, Mario Farnbacher and Justin Marks once again started from the pole position and drove to a second Watkins Glen victory.
Both MSR drivers have also shown strength at the annual event with Pla claiming victory at the series’ last outing at The Glen in 2019. Slated as MSR endurance driver in 2016, Pla scored a third place finish driving the No. 60 MSR Honda Ligier.
“The last time I raced at the Glen was in 2019 and I won,” said Pla. “I love this place so much – it has so many high speed corners. We had a good test at Watkins Glen a few weeks ago and this track should suit our car well.”
Cameron has a lengthy resume at Watkins Glen, driving a variety of machines, but the last few race seasons have seen the American pilot finish 3rd in the 2019 and 2018 six hour events and second in the 2015 Glen event.
“I think we have a strong car heading to The Glen,” said Cameron. “Our test there a few weeks ago went really well and the entire team is feeling good heading into the weekend. The Glen is a great track, and a place where Oli and I have done well in the past, so hopefully it should be a recipe for a strong result.”
The Sahlen’s Six Hours of Watkins Glen will have flag-to-flag coverage on TRACKPASS as well as radio coverage on SiriusXM Ch. 202. MSR will refocus following the Six Hour weekend and begin preparations for the WeatherTech 240 at Watkins Glen the following weekend (July 1-2).
